Linda Chiles

Second Vice Chair

Vacationing a week with friends in April 1977 who had moved to Phoenix in 1973, I went back to Chicago (born and raised), gave a month’s notice and moved out to Phoenix in June 1977. I was working for WGN-TV at the time (first as script typist, then editorial assistant and finally promotion manager) after having taught French in MI, IN and NH prior to that. Arriving in Phoenix June 1977, I worked for a temporary agency for a month and then started with Connecticut General Insurance Co. (now known as CIGNA) as group insurance administrative assistant and then as sales/service representative and for the last 6 years working in the Contracts department until I retired in 1997.

I had always voted since age 21 but 2016 election brought me into the political fold BIG TIME. I’m involved very much in Desert Progressives Indivisible organization, I am a PC in LD26 and a State Committee Member as well as 2 nd Vice Chair. Voting is my passion and I am a Deputy Registrar with the Maricopa County Recorder’s office since 2017 asking folks wherever I meet “Are you registered to vote?”. I also get to register our new citizens at the weekly naturalization ceremonies that take place at the Sandra Day O’Connor courthouse. Traveling is my passion – if only my finances matched that passion. And the most important thing to me (and that I wish for everyone) is that I am physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually healthy. I strongly believe that we should be number 1 in our life. If we aren’t where WE need to be, how can we possibly help anyone else? I am also a volunteer for Hospice of the Valley’s 11 th hour program. P.S. Miss Kitty is my joy. She’ll be 3 years old in June – we met when she was 3 months old.
